problems capturing audio

Hi eveyone

can't capture the audio for some reason..

I want to capture from vhs, I connected the VHS to my computer (the audio to the line in input), i enabled the line in for my soundcart, I enabled the "capture video and audio" at my capture program (I tried main actor and also virtual dub) I also chosed an audio format. when i start to capture i can see the video and also hear the audio, but somehow my capture program does not capture the audio, only the videos.
What am i doing wrong??

And you selected the SOUND RECORDING VOLUME settings in your console for LINE IN? I see no mention of it?

yes i chosed a recoring level.. i changed it from low to high, it has no effect. i don't have so many options for my soundcard, it is just a simple on board card
