    Hi!

Im using Canon HV30 and are recording with HDV PF25 and 1920x1080.

How do I in the best way transfer my footage without any loss of quality. Im using Final Cut pro version 6.04 but when Im captured my footage with Final Cut it ended up with 1440x1080 instead of 1920x1080.

I tried to capture with Imovie 08 instead (im using mac) and the file ended up almost three times bigger in filesize and with 1920x1080.

Well all of this is very comfusing for me. Ive tried to search for an answer but cant find it.

    My question is:
    1)
How do I capture my footage recorded with HDV PF25 and 1920x1080. Which setting shall I use in Final Cut for best possible quality. Or shall I use any other software to capture the footage since it doesnt seem to be possible to get the original 1920x1080. Just transformed into 1440x1080

In final cut im using the settings:
    Sequence Preset: HDV - 1080p25
    Capture Preset: HDV
Device Control Preset: HDV Firewire Basic 25 fps

    Is this correct?

    2)
as an example when I´ve captured 26 s with Imovie and Final Cut I get the following:

    Imovie:
    size: 260 mb
    frame size: 1920 x 1080

    Final Cut:
    size: 85.5 mb
    frame size: 1440 x 1080

what explains the difference? and what is the best way of doing this? through final cut or through Imovie.

    3)
There will not be any diffference if Im using the HDV/DV output or the HDMI out?
I have used the HDV/DV but there shouldnt be any difference?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks a lot!

  2. Internally, HDV is 1440 x 1080. When it is displayed, it gets stretched to appear as 1920 x 1080.

HDV is stored on tape as 1440x1080. what you transfer over firewire is what is on the tape. it is a wide pixel format. when played back it is converted to 1920x1080 over hdmi. imovie must be encoding it to a 1920 mov file.

There is a lot of good info on HV-30 at this site:

All HDV is 1440x1080 so you may stretch it to 1920x1080 with most HD editing SW. I use Pinnacle Studio Plus. It will allow you to convert to Blu-Ray format and burn to regular DVD to play on BR. Works on older BR players, not sure about newer ones.
