  1. i've been trying to copy some mpegs from an SVCD authored in Nero to my hard drive by just dragging them onto the desktop, and i get this error:

"The operation cannot be completed because some data cannot be read or written (Error code -36)"

there's nothing wrong with the svcd.. it plays in my dvd player just fine. why can't i copy files off of it? does anyone know?

I don't have a machine with it handy so I'm not sure that it works in OS X, but if you're on OS X you could try vcdxrip (part of vcdimager 0.7). If it works you should end up with a bin/cue pair, an MPG file, and a vcdimager XML file describing the disc. In theory running that XML file through vcdxbuild could recreate the disc, so if this is related to figuring out what Nero does differently that might be useful.

  3. thanks sterno, that's exactly what i'm looking to do!

i'm a bit confused though... i have vcdxrip as a part of vcdtoolsx, but it will only extract mpegs out of .bin files.. not extract files off of a vcd/svcd. i can't find vcdimager 0.7 for os x available to download anywhere...

  5. ok well i booted into os 9 and tried to drag the files onto my hd, and it says there's some sort of disc error, so that didn't work.

i decided to try VCD Copy X first since it's GUI, and it worked, but it just gave me a folder with a bunch of .dat files in them. what exactly can i do with those to get them back into mpeg format?

i'm going to attempt to use vcdimager now, because it sounds like it will do exactly what i want... i just don't know if i trust my self with a CLI. we'll see...
