  1. I have just started creating VCD's. I created one with VCDEasy and one with the program supplied with my CDR burner. I can play them on my computer in my DVD drive. When I put them in my Samsung-301, it says "no disc". Accordong to VCDHelp, the Samsung should be able to read VCD's.
    Is anything special required?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. It sounds like your player wasn't designed to read CD-R/W media (a separate ability to reading VCDs).

You may have to experiment with different brands of CD-R to find one that works. CD-RW often works better in these cases.

  3. Thank you. In reading the reviews for the 301, some people had problems and others did not. I guess I will look for a combination that works.
However, it does seem to me that if this is something that is intended to work, it should meet a standard and work with any CDR/W. There is something wrong with the product and/or standard if it is intended to work and doesn't just because you have a certain manufacturer of CDR/W.

  4. The issue is that some DVD players/drives are not designed to read CD-R/W at all.

Thus, it doesn't have to support ANY brands of media.

It just so happens that usually you will find some that work...

Unfortunately, the earlier DVD players often had less than forthcoming advertising / specifications. It is fair to say that any DVD player that doesn't specifically state that they can read CD-R/W media discs (there will often be elaboration about dual laser or dual optics) that they are not designed to read CD-R/W discs (and hence do so poorly or not at all).

Luckily, most newer DVD players are designed to read CD-R/W discs.
