  1. i dl 20% of an avi movie with the intentions of previewing it in virtual dub to make sure it is the correct movie, and then after i complete the dl, i convert it to mpeg. as i did so, i received this message that i have never recieved before with dl's. "error decompressing video frame 115, an unknown error occurred (may be corrupt data, error code 100. at that point it stopped the dub.

my question is: should i continue to dl the movie or would it just be a waste of time? does that error mean that i will not be able to convert it to mpeg or even view it as an avi? thanks

Sounds to me like a bad or corrupted frame. Go ahead and finish your download and run the file through Virtual Dub's Video-->Scan video stream for errors, then delete any bad frames. Save it under a new file name, and convert the new file.
    Hello.

When you "got 60 seconds" into what?

about 60 seconds went by as i was scanning video stream for errors.

i just did a search and went to virtual dub and found that it is a misleading error that will be fixed in the next release of virtual dub. but, until then, what do i do at this point when it gives me this mmx error message and i click ok and it appears to have stopped doing its thing? do i save at this point and continue to convert to mpeg, or am i to assume that the file is corrupted enough to not be able to convert? thanks

Try this on the avi you have 20% of:

First, get DivFix. After unzipping it make a COPY of the 20% file.
Start up DivFix and load the COPY of your file. Click on the "Strip Index"
then click on the "Rebuild Index".
This will give you a viewable avi that is only partially downloaded.
If the frame that you keep getting an error on is really screwed up you
may have to click on the "Scan for Errors" button first, then do the
    other two buttons.

I have done this ever since I found DivFix about a year ago and it
always works for me. Even if I have errors in the stream, it would
rebuild the index as best as it could so I could see if what I had
    so far was worth keeping.

    Goodluck!
