iso copy vs. ripping differences

Hi All,

I've come across in tnteresing problem with my dvd rips. I'm using a Pioneer DVD-RW drive, with generic DVD-RWs. If I ISO copy a single layer DVD, everything works fine. The disk plays in other computers, as well as stand alone DVD players. The problem is when I try to rip and burn only the movie. After this process, I'm able to only play the movie on the computer I created it on. Nothing else (not even other computers with DVD readers) can even read the data on the disk! I'm stuck! Anyone have any ideas? I would think that if my created DVD is not compliant, other computers can at least read the data on them, right?

How do you rip and author/burn it???????

I ripped it using DVD decrypter, Subrip to rip out sub titles, and DVD Maestro to author it, and Nero to burn it. (Basically Blackout's Method 2 in his guide). But would it make a difference how I ripped and authored it if no other computer can even read the disk? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If the final size is under 4.37GB you could use Ifoedit to strip it and author it. It would not be necassary to use any dedicated authoring program.

Thanks for the help. I just completed some more testing, and found some interesting results. I'm trying to backup Austin Powers I, the widescreen side of the disk. The total size appears to be under 4.3 GB, so I'm just using DVD Decrypter to read, then write to a generic DVD-rw disk. The results are still the same. The computer that created the disk can read it fine, but not other computers nor a stand alone dvd player. Help!

Forgot to add that I tried the same thing with a different movie, and it works fine in both the stand alone DVD player as well as other computers. Does this have something to do with the Austin Powers DVD? Some sort of copy protection?

Don't use ISo but UDF file system on your DVD.

dvddecrypter- rip in iso mode. if it's a single layer dvd. just burn this with nero

does it work with dula layers? i have been having problems playing split dvd+r's in my player.... check my post....

yes, but there is no media to burn it to. in that case you have rip to vobs and use a program like ifoedit-

yeah that way i am aware of, but have problems watching the finished product on my player, even though it plays straight copies.

if you only burn main movie files(one ifo and vob's) it wont work in standalone... you have to use Ifoedit to rip those unused parts of dvd and IfoEdit then make new vob's, ifo etc.... then burn AUDIO_TS(empty) and VIDEO_TS (all files inside)

Thanks for the replies. I did use guides found on www.doom9.org, and to the best of my knowledge did it correctly. Again, the disks work on the computer I created them on, but nowhere else. Not even data can be read on another computer. I'm beginning to thin that my luck is so bad that I'm the only one with this problem.

i`ve been testing and my conclusion is, if i use de iso image with dvddecripter the dvd-r will play in all standalones, if i burn with nero it only play in some standalones, my point is that nero writes something that some players dosen`t like or understand. the disadvantage is that you only can create single layes images, i`ve been trying to create a iso image form files already decrypted in my hd, but i can`t, if someone can give me some ligth on this will be great.

theres a problem with the software not the media. :P
