  2. Great. Thanks for your help.

The VirtualDub works reasonably well with exception that I sometimes get an error message: "AVIOutput: The handle is invalid" one some of the VCD file.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem ?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

  3. you only want the Audio Wav...right ?

Virtualdub > File > Open > Movie Name > Audio > Full Processing > Conversion > No Change > Compression > No Compression PCM > File > Save WAV.

This will probably be a huge file (regular length movie can be over 1gig)

Are you trying to load an actual, already burnt VCD into Virtualdub? I don't know if this is possible. Try going to the DVD Rip section

If it's an avi file, that probably means the movie is using AC3 audio (dolby digital compression)

    1. Go and grab VirtualDub_AC3 It will handle AC3 better.
    2. Load up the movie in VDAC3. Make sure you select audio>direct stream.
    3. Now do file>save wave
    4. Let virtualdub do it's thing.
    5. Now when you go to the file it will probably look like *filename*.wav.. just rename it to *filename*.ac3 instead.
    6. Now you can use any AC3 decoder and decode to a wav file which can be used by any program!
(I reccomend AC3Tool. It's fairly easy to use and I've never had a problem with it. It will even convert to MP3 as well.)

Hope that works for you. If not, it's probably some other codec that your computer does not have. You'll have to find out and download it.

  5. Thanks gentlemen for your responses.

    Hi Wee Haggis,

I followed the instructions in the info that you provided. I also double checked and it is exactly as you outlined in your recent email. It worked in many cases. I found out that the VCD I was trying to extract the audio was created using VCD 2.0 format instead of VCD 1.x.

Does VirtualDub support VCD 2.0 format ?

I'll try to use AC3 tool as suggested by other gentlemen.

    Thanks
