  1. Hopefully someone can help me with this problem:

I've rendered out a .AVI file with AfterEffects that I want to transcode to MPEG2 using TMPGenc.

I've dragged the file into Premiere, added some transitions, then frameserved it into TMPGenc using the Premiere Video Server (never had any problems with it)

For some reason the MPG file I create is blown out - the image is predominantly white - and for some reason washes out the rest of the image - it almost looks like someone has turned up the contrast on my monitor too far.

Now i've read here (http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencexplained.htm) that maybe I need to set the white levels to 235 max. (In the file they are at 255) - but this creates a less than white image.

The weird part is that the original AVI file is not washed out - the only time it gets washed out is when I encode to MPEG2 using TMPGenc or when I encode to DV AVI. Any other compression scheme (DivX, Quicktime, etc.) looks fine.

And furthermore, the file looks fine on my older computer running Win. 98 (Pent. II/GeForce2) - my computer now is Pent. 4 runing XP Pro (GeForce 3)

SOOO... since I'm creating a DVD that I want to be able to play on all computers/standalone players without washing out, what the heck should I do?

  2. Since no one helped me...

I figured it out on my own! I went ahead and unchecked that box so that it would out put to Rec.601DV and it's not blown out anymore.

Has anyone else ever unchecked this box?
