When converting a divx dvdrip to vcd should i leave the source as 1:1Vga as i change the source to 16.9 ntsc 525 lanes.(or 625 lines if pal.)
I do this because when leaving it on 1:1,some divx's have a tiny black line at the top and bottom and othes have bigger lines, where as with the 16.9 525 lines u get an equal line at the the top and bottom and its the same on nearly ever movie. As the orignal dvd that the divx came from has a ratio of 1.85:1 which when playing a dvd with that ratio your meant to get a line at top and bottom.
So is what im doing ok ????

If you are happy with it, it's ok
But here's what i usually do:
in stead of the 1:1 u use, i use the 4:3 625 Line.. I'm very happy with that, always been happy with those setts

I always use 2 setting 1:1 and 16:9 display not PAL nor NTSC which depend on how I want output to be. If original source is in full screen format I would go with 1:1 (sometime has to be 4:3) but if wide screen format then I will test both 1:1 and 16:9 in order to get letter box format file.
Note this is only for converting. If I rip from DVD I would set it to match DVD source. -
Some DVD disks have NTSC (Film) 23.976fps and some have 29.97fps and those same disks may have different Widescreen types, the output could be small black borders, or large, you need to select an appropriate one while having the aspect ration correct.Originally Posted by Haku
On Widescreen TV's you can zoom out those black borders. -
Ok thanks for the help guys,
But 1 thing i forgot to mention, under video stream setting should i leave that as 4.3 or change it to 16.9.As if i rip a dvd i change that to 16.9.
Done a couple of test and if i leave it as 4.3 and change the video source to 16.9 i get a black line at top and bottom like u should, but if i change the video stream to 16.9 and the source to 19.9 it sretchs out to full screen, but if i do 16.9 video stream and a 16.9 525 lines source i get a really tiny black line on the top and bottom.
