After much research, I found that the 8500DV's suffer from a very sensitive tuner. I recently had a signal booster installed by my cable company and have absoulutely crisp and clear reception to the three TV's located in my house. Unfortuneatly I suffer from the horizontal line syndrome on my ATI connection. Here are some of the things I have tried:
1. Purchased a Monster Home Theater Power Strip with the line stabilizer. Spent $79.00, and NADA. I decided to keep the device because I really do want to protect ny machine.
2. Spent $89 on a ANTEC True Power 430 watt power supply. I have three hard drives, an ATHLON 2000+, and the ATI Radeon, not to forget a CD burner and a USB connected scanner. Nope, did not help the reception at all. I decided to keep the PSU because I have so many devices and the CPU temps were a little on the high side. This PSU keeps my CPU about 45 degrees cooler.
3. Purchased the Radio shack 15-678 Variable attenuator to reduce the signal input directly to the ATI tuner. SUCCESS!!!!...well kind of. Most of the horizontal lines went away, but there was a sacrifice in "crispness" As I weakened the signal strength the quality improved, but too much adjustment meant the picture became very grainy. Even inder the most optimal adjustments, the picture did not look as crisp as my stand alone televison.
SO the question remains....wil I ever get a crisp cable televison quality with this card, or will I have to settle for a 90% soultion? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dan
