  1. I've got a Panasonic RV31 and an RCA RC5240P.

The Panasonic doesn't do SVCD, if it did, I'd get two of them, it plays
every VCD I toss at it and XVCD very well.

This RCA 5240P is another story. It supposedly plays everything, highly rated, etc. However, EVERY SINGLE VCD sticks/pauses 10-20 times a disc
for up to 5 seconds per pause. Hightly annoying.. whats worse, is some never resume at all.. just lock. These are simple VCD's.

The exact same disc's play perfectly in the panasonic, the media is Yamaha Professional Grade/Taiwan made and the burner is a Plextor. So it's not the media (I've tried 3 other brands).

So I need to get a new DVD player to replace this one and want to get
"the best" one there is out there. Only requirements are it plays VCD, SVCD and I'd like it to play XVCD (of at least 2600bit). I'm not worried about cost.. so saving $100 or $200 isn't what I'm after. I'm about ready to toss this RCA out the window.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!

  2. bump.

this RCA truely is a pos.

the only thing it plays well are store bought dvd's.

I've got about 10 - standard VCD's that this thing just
chokes on - pauses for 4-5 minutes every 10-20 seconds.

For your panasonic player try to use your SVCD-(mpeg2-)bitstream with VCD-header (use TMPEGEnc). Should work!

I have a Pioneer 343 which is in the shop for repair! It seemed to be the highest rated product when I bought it, but it hasn't lived up to it.

While in for repair, I bought a GE5803P at Walmart for $105. It is a 3-disk changer and works very well. The remote is disappointing, but the player plays everything.
