What standalone DVD player do you recommend to be able to play PAL region 2 movies in US?
Thanks.

The Oppo DV-981HD (http://www.oppodigital.com) is very highly regarded for this and comes out of the box region free. It's a little expensive, but it has the very best chip possible for upscaling and it's PAL->NTSC conversion is said to be excellent.
If you want to do this on the cheap, Philips makes a variety of players that can easily be put into region free mode, but do check on specific models BEFORE buying to be sure a region unlock "hack" exists for it. Note also that my experience is that Philips players tend to simply chop off the very top and bottom of the PAL video image to get it to NTSC sizes. For letterboxed video this is not a problem, but if you have a full screen foreign language film with subtitles, it may chop off the subtitles since it's not resizing the image. Oppo resizes the image from PAL->NTSC, so there won't be this problem with an Oppo player.
