This may have been asked so many times but I have a hard disk partitioned into 2 equal drives with C: obviously having Windows and all my apps and D: with nothing on it since it will be my target drive for all AVI captures.

Anyway, what I need to know is which drive should I optimize so that I can reduce frame loss and should I do a scandisk and defrag or is it better to do a defrag only.

    Thanks

  2. First I will say you made the right choice by cutting your drive to 2 parts one for the OS and the other for straight video capture. if there are some files on the video drive before you start a new capture then I suggest you defrag it. But scandisk is really only if you think you may have corrupted your FAT table or something. As long as your machine isnt doing alot of illegal shutdowns(crashes) you shouldnt need to scandisk outside of like maybe once or twice a month.

If your funds can run to it then I suggest you buy a second IDE drive - use this as your capture area AND put your Windows swap file on it (make a permanent one of at least double your physical memory). You will be amazed at the performance increase in having a second drive - even if it is connected to the same IDE channel as your master.
