Does anyone know how to capture (raw video) to a portable hard drive directly from camcorder? I'm thinking of hooking up my sony hdr-sr10 hi def camcorder to a portable hard drive to increase its capacity (40 GB) to 160 GB but don't know if it will capture without a PC. Any ideas?

Ignor the above because the hdr-sr10 isn't DV/HDV format.
An MPeg2 or AVCHD camcorder communicates over USB2 to a proprietary s/w driver and capture software on a computer. You need a computer of some kind. The FS4 won't work.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Thanks edDV, those firewire hdds are way too expensive. Somehow I always answer my own questios later and I better buy a simple laptop with a decent hdd and hook it to my camcorder, get a backpack and I'm good to go. Mobile all the ime.
