    Depends on what you want to do, there are many. MJPEG, Huffy or even M$ ASF or Video 1

    Stick with DivX 3.11 Alpha (Low/fast motion) you can't go wrong

    Xvid is frozen in time, it suppose to have carried on where the open source DivX 4 finished (Now DivX 5, commercial)

    Besides this, xvid offers NOTHING that older codec's don't already provide
