Hi folks,

I bet you’ve seen this before and I’m hoping the solution has been found.

The short version:

My Pyro BasicDV/JVC DV cam worked great under a Win98/WinXp Pro dual boot scenario. Did all input/editing/output in the Xp environment. Upgraded to Xp only and now I can capture beautifully but output is filled with stutters and drop outs. Roughly 75% - 80% of the frames are dropped.

Another symptom is that when I try to select a TI video capture device, the JVC DV cam, (which is how the Pyro card shows up in WinXp device manager) in the video applications I get an error message telling me that the device in not available. However when I leave it set at an MS DV device it controls the camera properly.

I am able to see the video camera at all times in the device manager as an imaging device. The Pyro card shows up as both an IEEE1394 device and a network controller.

The long version:

System specs: AMD Athlon 750 on Abit KA7 Mobo with a VIA chipset and 256MB RAM.

Video capture/editing/output app is currently Pinnacle Studio 7. (However I have the same problem when using Ulead Video Studio 5 (included w/ Pyro) and Media Studio 6)

Editing is being done on 60GB, DMA enabled, 7200 rpm, UDMA66 drive. Xp is on 15GB, DMA enabled, 7200 rpm, UDMA66 drive.

Video card: ATI Radeon 7000 fully patched

OS: WinXp Pro, build 2600, fully patched.

Things I have tried that have not worked:

All components, chipsets and relevant software are fully patched per manufacturer instructions; IRQ management/changes; DMA/PIO changes, back-rev VIA chipset drivers, disabled devices, and beating my head against the desk.

I’ve spent several hours searching the manufactures web sites and usenet newsgroups and can find many people who seem to be having the same problem. I’m hoping that you’re aware of this issue and may have been able to discover a fix.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
