  1. 1. When I finish dubbing a video in VirtualDub, do I have to save the AVI, or does the new dubbed avi file update itself? 2. What is the point of "Dubbing" the video if I can just save it. 3. Is there any way around saving the edited version of the avi. file without having to save it as an extremely large multi-gigabyte file?

  3. Use "Save Processing Settings" to save your edit points. Later, you can FrameServe the original AVI using these settings.

I believe he is talking about saving his video file rather than his configuation.

And once you edit any AVI file in VDub, you have to name the finished file. And using a compression codec using makes the AVI file much smaller.

  5. Ok what compression codec do you use? And will it automattically compress the file, or do I have to do it myself?

WHEN I USE VIRTUAL DUB I LOAD MY VIDEO THEN SELECT COMPRESSION MP4 OR DIVX...I THEN SELECT FRAME RATE AND SELECT CHANGE SO AUDIO VIDEO DURATION MATCH. I THEN SELECT SAVE AS AND CHOOSE A NAME. AFTER IT IS ENCODED FULLY I LOAD THE COMPRESSED AVI INTO VIRTUAL DUB THEN SELECT DIRECT STREAM COPY AND SET MY IN AND OUT POINTS TO MAKE SEVERAL NEW FILES, BE SURE TO NUMBER THEM TO KEEP YOUR SEGMENTS IN ORDER I THEN LOAD THE NEW FILES IN VIRTUAL DUB SELECTING APEND AVI SEGMENT AFTER LOADING EACH AVI I THEN SELECT DIRECT STREAM COPY... SAVE AS AND WALLAA NEW VIDEO,THEN DELETE ALL THE EXTRA ONES YOU HAVE. I USUALL ENCODE MY WHOLE CAPTURE INCLUDING COMMERCIALS SO THAT THE ENTIRE AVI IS OF THE SAME PARAMETERS SO I DONT HAVE PROBLEMS WHEN I JOIN MY EDITED PORTIONS.

I use the DIVX (fast) codecs myself. And when you save it, it compresses it at that time to your new file.

  8. Nevermind. All I have to do Is select Audio->Direct Stream Copy, and the same under Video. Now the files are coming out to be a more realistic, smaller size.
