  1. Hello, I have a 793 MB MPEG1 file that is 60 mins, 29.97fps, 352x240.
I only downloaded this file so I don't know what format it was made for.

I want to burn this file onto one 80 min CDR.
Is burning it with VCD or SVCD format the only way to fit this much MB of data on one CD?
And for this file should I use VCD or SVCD format?

I don't even care if I have to burn it as VCD or SVCD, for I will only play the file on my computer.
Please tell me what are the best options to burn this much data.

BURN TO VCD AND IT WILL FIT. IF YOU CAN USE Tmpgenc plus YOU CAN ADJUST THE SIZE IN THE MENU TO MAXIMIZE YOUR CD.

    Kenno3,

That file appears to already be in VCD spec, so just burn it as VCD disc and you should be fine. FYI, 80min CDs can store around 800mbs of video data (actually about 830mbs if you count each and every byte).

  4. Thanks all for your replies.

So 830 MB is the absolute maximum for VCD and SVCD formats (for both formats)?

How do I determine if the other 700+ MB Mpeg files I have are correct for VCD or SVCD?

Where do you do that? for TMPGENC I have had mpg that were more than about 85 to 89 mins, and Sizes ranging from 700 to 850 MB after i used Tmpgenc . How do i compact the size of the file or maximize the size of a CD (700mb, 80 mins)???

    Kenno3,

The 830mbs is a rough estimate, and it pertains to the 80 minute *media*. This is the amount of raw bytes that can be stored on the media, and both VCDs and SVCDs store the video data in a raw format (without error correction).

As for checking the format of a file, I use a program called mpegprop (I think that's what it's called) and can be found in the Tools links on the left. See the "What Is" links on the left for the details on the VCD and SVCD formats (you'll compare that info with what mpegprop tells you).

i meant TMPGENC plus.my bad. i figured most everyone use that. the menu allows you to vary the bitrate based soley on the size you want the output. this may or may not be a vcd compliant bitrate but will play on pc like kenno3 wanted. i was giving him a easy way to make a vcd sinse if it wasn't TMPGENC would make it ccompliant anyway. i take it that all he wants to do in this situation make the whole file fit on one disk. chack out convert to left under how to.

Just use Nero or WinonCD to burn the mpeg file an CD.
These programs check the file if its format is alright for VCD/ SVCD.
Don´t mind a lower audio bitrate it should be no problem.
When Nero detects some differences between the file and the VCD/ SVCD specifications burn it as non standard disc.

  9. Thanks.
How do I know if my files will fit on a 80 min CD, just don't burn over 830 MB?
I think someone said that they burned 835 MB, can this be done?

All depends on the CD-R media. Some media are able to be burned with 835 mb. Use the prog "CDRidentifier" , to find out more about your media.
And mind that your CD-RW Drive must be able to overburn media.
With some drives it isn´t possible. Some are extremely good for overburning CDR.

  12. Actually, the upper limit for 80min CDs for S/VCDs is about 796 MB not 830 MB.

You can work it out yourself.

S/VCD in MODE Form2 allow for 2324 bytes per sector of user data.

There are 75 sectors per second (360 000 sectors on an 80 min CD).

Don't forget there will be about a 10 second minimum overhead for S/VCDs.

Of course, if you overburn your disc, you can fit up to about 20 MB or 2 min more depending on your media and drive.

  13. Ok I've read over this thread and hopefully there is something i can do to get what I want to work...

What I have is 2 mpg files. One is 441mb in side the second one is 451mb in size.

Now if my math works thats 892MB in total.

Now what this is 1 show split up in 2 segements. Is there anyway I can perhaps drop the file size of these files without loosing quality?

Their in a 4:3 aspect ratio (made for your TV ).

I would so love to be able to fit this on one VCD. Cause if i were to put it on 2 VCDs it kinda makes it odd to view on my DVD player.

I also have to use CDRW media for my particular Sony DVD player for it to be able to use VCDs which is sorta ok

So does anyone have any other ideas for me to try? I would really like to have these two files on 1 cd. If I were to recode both files using TMPGen or whatever into a single mpg file would this help a bit?

Anyone have any settings I can try to get this to fit on a CDRW?

    Thanx!!

  14. You will have to re-encode it, and you will lose quality.

If you use 90 or 99 min media, it should fit as is though.

  15. I prefer using VCDEasy to author & burn my VCDs. The VCDs burned with VCDEasy seem to be more compliant among various devices (standalone DVD, portable DVD, PC, Dreamcast) than those burned from Nero or NTI Coaster Maker. I guess a CUE/BIN authored with VCDEasy, then burned with Nero would be fine. To date though, I have never been able to overburn a CD-R. The 807 MB limit reported by CDRDAO Tools in VCDEasy seems to be the stonewall limit. Of course, that was with an older 8x burner. I've not yet tried burning MPEG-1 files larger than 795 MB with my new Lite-ON 32x12x40 burner.
