    Hello,

I am having trouble finding a free program to convert my xvid to svcd
I have tried avi2dvd but it keeps giving me an error...
Does anyone know of any other free programs out there which can do this?

The output of any SVCD authoring app should be an ISO or BIN/CUE, that you just burn. No file system settings to worry about.
Back in those days, I used TMPGEnc to encode whatever to SVCD mpg, using the SVCD template, then authored and burned with VCDEasy.

ok i just tried thefilm machine but when i preview the image is squashed sideways. When i put this on the dvd player and play it on tv would it go back to normal?

Also, the avi video i have is taken from a HD tv and so it has those black borders on both sides of the video, how can i fix this? can i?

It might look squashed because the svcd frame size/resolution is 480x480/576 but the Display Aspect Ratio is 4:3 so it will be resized when you use a real dvd player or software dvd/svcd player.

ok i just looked the avi is
    608x336 (16/9)

And i just found out something...
When i preview with both 16:9 and 4:3 the video still is squashed but when i play in media player its normal.
I think it's because of the black borders it has? How can i get rid of them?

    ok i got something here...
I did a search on these forums and found out
Some films are shot in ratios of 16:9 (which this video has) and some 4:3
So this is the question, the big movie tv's are 16:9 and the normal tv's are 4:3 am i correct?

So in thefilmmachine i put in to add borders, 4:3 ratio and not have it do the ntsc to pal and it works out alright! except there are borders on all 4 sides now.

    So...
What is difference between ntsc and pal? what do normal tv's run on?
If i put this on a cd and run on my player would the border still be there? or would the video be big enough that the borders would not be seen on screen?
