  1. G'day,

I'm buying a new system tomorrow (P4 2000/256mb ram) and thought i'd start ripping some DVDs to SVCD. I'll *probably* be using windows 2000.

I'm a proficient (read: advanced) computer user, but i'm completely ignorant when it comes to DVD/computer stuff.
I'm just curious on a few things:

Which would be the fastest/best program(s) which rip/converts DVD to SVCD (i've been using TMPEG for a while and it seems good for converting).

How long can I expect it will take to rip + convert a DVD of, say, 2 hours to SVCD? 10 hours or so, or is that way off? Are there any common problems I should be look out for?

    cheers in advance

  2. i recomend u follow one of the dvd to svcd guides which use the program dvd2svcd. doom9 or here, cant remember
it is easy to get used to and you have many options which allow u to get best quality. U choose all the options and then it runs scripts which run all the programs u would use individually straight away one after the other.. But watch out it is looooooong. I have only used the tmpeg option in there and it takes bout 12h just in tmpeg.
    good luck
    cya

  3. yes, there are guides and links for dvd2svcd at www.doom9.org
thats also one of the best pieces of software to use. for multipass encoding you might want to try and get CCE instead of TMPG, although dvd2svcd will support both. only diff, tmpg can only do 2 pass where CCE can do as many as you specify

on a 2 hour movie with 4 or 5 pass it takes me about 15-20 hours to encode with a little bit less of a system then you.
