  1. Hi guys i am new to mac and totally new in ffmpegx. I have imac osx 10.6.4. Installed the ffmpeg and the binaries, but every time i turn the program on it ask me to install mpeg2enc ... i got through the path and the program open. Is it normal? I think the program don't find this path ... what did i do wrong?

Now i am trying to convert a .avi file into a dvd (for play in a regular DVD). And i need subtitles because i am not american! In ffmpegx we have 2 options for DVD (ffmpeg and mpeg2enc) witch one i use? My DVD is Pal ... duno if this information is important. I tried with dvd (ffmpeg) and when i saw preview the subtitles were there. I burn dvd with program called burn. And when i turn on the dvd audio was ok and video ok, but no subtitles I did select the option: filters ... subtitles. But in regular dvd no sub ( and i had tried to press sub button in dvd remote control).

I read tons of messages in forum. But cant saw a direct response to my problem.

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

If you have trouble with mpeg2enc, you may try this alternate download: mpeg2enc.intel.zip. Unzip before use, if your browser doesn't already do so. The official download should work as well, but this zipped copy had been helpful for some users that couldn't get the regular download to work.

Either one can do. There are some minor differences which may lead to a preference for one of them. I tend to use the DVD mpeg2enc preset most often.

Nearly all PAL DVD players can play NTSC DVDs as well. Most modern PAL tvs can handle an NTSC video signal as well. PAL or NTSC is usually not an issue in PAL countries. (The reverse is not true: DVD players in NTSC countries often can not play PAL discs.)

If the ffmpegX conversion to DVD goes well, then it should output a DVD folder with a VIDEO_TS folder.
Test: Play the VIDEO_TS folder in VLC or Apple DVD Player. Can you turn on the subtitles now? If 'Yes', then use the method described below. If 'No' then ffmpegX somehow didn't process the subtitles correctly, and further investigation is needed.

If you use 'Burn', and you want to burn your ffmpegX output to disc, then select the Data tab, and select the DVD (UDF) file system, and add your VIDEO_TS folder and empty AUDIO_TS folder.
(If you select the Video tab in 'Burn', then it may needlessly re-encode your files and ignore the subtitle stream.)

  3. Hi Case! First of all TYVM for the reply!

The link you send me for mpeg2enc worked and now it says i have option to try free or register for 15 box. But now it worked ... thx!

    About the conversion i had done. I have a folder with the film name.DVD and inside i have 2 folders audio_TS (nothing inside) and video_TS (video_ts.bup , video_ts.ifo, VTS01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.ifo, VTS_01_1.vob, VTS_01_2.vob and VTS_01_3.vob)

I tried to play the first .vob file in vlc and audio and video ok, but no subtitles ... i press "S" and the subtitles appeared!

Tried your tips for burn ... and all good now (worked on my dvd player)!!! TYVM
