  1. In Internet Explorer 5.0 when i go to clear the internet history only some of the sites are deleted. The other sites
just stay and wont go away. I tried Tweak UI to get rid of them. I have tried emptying the cookies and temporary internet files but they still stick around. I went to microsoft's website but their support is SH*T house. So do any of you guys know how to fix this problem.

  2. I don't really know how to "fix" the problem or even why this happens sometimes but you can always do it the "brute force" way by deleting the contents of the "History" folder.

    Windows 9x and ME
    C:\Windows\History

    Windows NT, 2000 or XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\History

Of course the drive letter may be different in your case. For any NT based system look under the "Documents and Settings" folder and locate your User Name. You can follow the path there.

Just go into the "History" folder and in the case that you just want to delete the history from "Today" go into the "Today" folder and delete everything in there (Select All or Ctrl+A then Delete). Make sure to empty your Recycle Bin or hold down your SHIFT key during the Delete operation.

  3. I got it.

    FORMAT C:

Just kidding. Use Ad-aware 5.5. You probably got Spyware loaded and won't delete or keeps coming back because its logged in your registry.

  4. Took up your suggestions but none of those worked.
    Anybody else got any suggestions?
    Any help appreciated!
Note to juice: I'm seriously thinking about formatting

  5. I usually just delete them in internet explorer or with tweakui and then restart my computer. I think that works. I am using ME though.

We are talking about trying to hide the fact that you surf porn sites right?

  7. Okay, you should try the process I described above and then you may need to do some Registry Hacking.

Check out the KB article at Microsoft:

    support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q157/7/29.asp

Basically this article tells you to delete all the values/entries under the following Regstry Key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

pacmania_2001, you haven't mentioned what OS you are using. Are you using a Win9x variant (98, ME, etc) or a WinNT variant (NT, 2000, XP)?

If you are using any NT variant are you using User Profiles or are you simply having the computer login using the Administrator or other account?

Deleting the actual "History" files as I described in an earlier post should take care of all History shown in IE and deleting the values/entries in the Registry Key listed above should take care of "History" in your IE "Address Bar".

Let us know if that works.

I somehow got "RealNames" installed on my computer and it listed several Chinese sites under the history and I couldn't get rid of them. In Internet Option/Advanced you can turn Real Names off.

    Worth a check

  10. I am using Windows 98SE. I have tried using Tweak UI, the registry hacking, deleting history folder, clearing internet history. I checked and i dont have real names.
The browser i have is IE 5.0 if that helps. It only happens on some sites i visit. These are just random ones such as this site and google. I also cleared all cookies and none of the sites are in my favourites

  12. i dont know if this will be of any help with your problem but this is a bit of interesting info that might help you out. internet explorer compiles a dat file that is invisible in windows regardless of how you have hacked your registry to show hidden files. i do not know exactly why or how just this one specific .dat file is rendered invisible but here is how to clear it...

restart your computer in dos mode and enter the following: 'del c:\windows\tempor~1\content.ie5\index.dat' , note for versions older than 5 just drop \content.ie5. take note of your available disk space before and after. i had a 36 meg .dat file i had no idea existed. i am not paticularly concerned about the size of the file but more concerned with what information is saved there. remember that explorer will keep re-creating a new .dat file every time you delete it so you will need to do this periodically.

or set up an step in your boot process by...

put this line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file at or near the end. 'deltree /y c:\windows\tempor~1' this will purge the temporary internet files folder including the DAT file at every bootup.

*NOTE enter the commands inside the ' marks but dont include the ' marks

    peace out,
    dumwaldo

  13. I had the same type of problem using yahoo clubs and the big brother 2 website. I went and found this program called "Purgeie" go to zdnet.com and go to downloads to search for it. It will only work for fifteen days. But the cool things is those days don't have to bee continuous, you could used it every month for fifteen months or you could register it for 15 dollars, worked for me

  14. Thanks for all the help, especially Devinemi83. I still have no idea why those pages only were stored but the PurgeIE program got rid of it so thanks again
