  1. I've a standalone dvd player that can't play vcd's but it plays mp3 on cdr.
my question: Is there a possibility to burn a movie on a cdr in a format that my dvd standalone recognices? perhaps in a dvd format, but on a cdr?
Or could I hack the standalone for that it can read vcd's?

    please help me!

    (I've tried the search-function before)

  2. You can burn dvd format onto cdr, this is known as mini dvd. It will only hold about 15 mins of video and is much less compatible than VCD. It is very unlikely that your player will play them. What is your stand alone player ?

Practically all DVD players will play VCDs, ensure that you are writing them in the standard compatible format. I think it's 352x288 mpeg1.
Try using a different mpeg encoder, the panasonic plugin for Premiere is good.

  5. Big thanks for ur replies!

my dvd standalone player is a LG DVD5095.

I burned mp3 on cdr and it plays it, but when I burn a VCD with the newest nero burning rom and I want to play it, then the standalone says "no mp3-format".

Also the manual of the Player says, that my player only will play CDR's with mp3-format.

Coul I perhaps patch the Player, so it will play VCD's? 15min DVD on one CDR is not enough

  6. When you create your VCD in nero you are using the VCD option and not just burning the mpeg file to a disc as a data cd are you. If you look at the disc you should have 5 folders, one of them labelled mpegav. There should be a dat file in this folder.

If you have a player that won't play VCD, then I dont think there is a lot you can do. A lot of the cheaper brand players are having VCD compatability removed so they dont have to pay a licensing fee to phillips.

Apex and Pacific are 2 such brands whose newer models have had VCD compatability removed.

  7. Thx Craig.

I tried the option "burn vcd" in nero and I got the 5 folders with the .dat file in one. It didn't work...

Probably u'r right with the "cheaper brand". Perhaps I could change the player in the store I bought it I'll give it a try

  8. Take the disc you have made into the store and try it in a few players. That way you can verify that your disc is ok, and which players it is compatible with.

Try VCDEasy. My DVD refuses to play Nero made VCD's, but using VCDEasy, it plays (as far as I've tried) any on or off specs VCD i throw at it!
