  1. Not much else to say but that. Have used TMPG several times, but never had this happen. Any ideas?

Can you play the file using Windows media player? I've found that TMPG won't open some files if the codec isn't installed on the machine.

  3. Yes, Windows media player plays it just fine.

  4. Just noticed something else. I can select my avi file under the audio portion of tmpg. It's when I try to select my avi file under the video portion that I get the error message.

  8. dvd2svcd isn't working either. I tried to just use Nero, but it says that there isn't enough memory when it goes to encode the video. I know that isn't the case, my computer is 2 weeks old with 512 mb ddr-sdram and a 60 gb hard drive. I am just confused as the file plays fine on Windows Media Player. HELP!!!!!

there are 50+ types of avi files .. saying a avi file will not open doesnt mean a whole lot if the type it is also mentioned .. use a program like avi_info and see what it is , then you can go about re-installing or whatever needed to fix your problem .. yes avi_info would work in this case because you have played it in media player ... more in likely you just need to adjust your VFAPI ->
AVI VFW to a higher level or directshow to a higher level in TMPGEnc

I've run into this problem a couple of times with avi files that I downloaded off the net. Load the file up in VirtualDub and check the properties, in particular look at the key frame interval. If it's zero you'll have to decompress the file to another format using either uncompressed RGB or my preference Huffyuv. With no key frames it's impossible to seek thru the file and TMPEGnc will choke on it. I don't know if this will help, but it's worked for me in the past.

  13. As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
