    Hello,

I have downloaded a few avi movies and are 2 hrs in length and 750MB+ in size. I try to cut them using Vdub. some of them work fine after cutting and converting to vcd via nero. But for some I get the following message when I open the avi file:

" videodub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce upto 19074 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate: 143.6 +/- 25.2 kbps)"

I try to cut the movie like I always do and the first part seems to be fine but in the second part, the audio and video are not in sync at all. I am pressing shift while I'm moving the slide bar to the right.

What am I doing wrong ??? can someone please help me.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

yes, the movies are divx and i did follow the guide. but the guide does not give me what to do when I get that error I mentioned in the previous post.

Any suggestions.?? Also, the conversion is not an issue. the issue is splitting. Help...

    You need to save out the audio before you can edit this type of AVI, if you intend using it later with TMPGEnc then do this;

    Audio > Full processing mode
Audio > compression > PCM (Default)
    Audio > Conversion > 44.1Khz
    SAVE WAV

If you have AC3 audio, this requires a special version of Vdub called Vdub AC3
    http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html

However if you intend to keep them as AVI and want to cut them, you need to select both Video and audio to be full processing

    Audio > full processing mode
    Video > full processing mode
    SAVE AVI
This will save the movie as uncompressed video and audio, which you can then later re-compress using CBR, this you can then cut up without the problems.

If its for VCD use, the you can use the original AVI and the saved WAV
Convert the whole movie, then use TMPGEnc split/merge to cut into 2

If you want to cut an avi with ac3, vbr mp3, abr mp3 or cbr mp3, and want to be able to cut to the nearest MB you can use a specially modified version of Virtualdub called Nandub. This will cut perfectly, and there is no need to select *full-processing mode* when saving the cut parts. Just select *direct stream copy* for both audio and video stream.

You will find this in the download section at www.doom9.org 8)
