  1. Hello all,

I am having some troubles openning my MPEG-II files created with the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR. I'll try to be as detailed as possible here ...

-I use PowerDVD XP 4.0 (for MPEG-II Decoder)
-Windows Media Player will play the files correctly
-TMPGEnc 2.56 opens the files without a problem, re-encodes the files without a problem, etc... works great (SVCDs created with version 2.56 playback great in Power DVD and on my Apex AD-1500).
-The files are captured at 640x480 (I need to lower this to 480x480 for future captures ... oh well).

TMPGEnc 2.57 Will not open the files that are created by my capture card. However, it will open the files that have been re-encoded using TMPGEnc 2.56 (which are SVCD compliant).

I have attempted uninstalling and reinstalling Power DVD. I have tried changing the environmental settings. I have uninstalled (to the best of my knowledge) all other video programs (except Power DVD and the capture card SW).

So, any ideas? Should I cut my losses and just stick with version 2.56? Or is there something I'm missing here? I'd hate to think that I won't be able to use future versions of TMPGEnc. I know they changed the way they read MPEG2 files with the new version of TMPGEnc, so maybe that's what is messing up.

If anymore info is needed just ask! You can see my computer details above.

    Thanks,
    Xerces

  2. Did you move the MPEG-2 plugin folder from the TMPGEnc 2.56 folder into the TMPGEnc 2.57 folder? I assume you had it in 2.56 folder because you could open mpeg-2 files. Or maybe they've updated the MPEG2 plugin since and you need to redownload it.

  3. I don't have an MPEG2 plugin folder for either version. I forgot to mention that I am using TMPGEnc Plus.

I use TMPGEnc 2.57 Plus and the PowerDVD 4 mpeg 2 codec, works very well, it does sound like your captures have something wrong ?

  5. The captures could have something wrong, but version 2.56 does open them and re-encode properly. WMP also plays it correctly.

Maybe version 2.57 is not as forgiving about the captured video as version 2.56.

No, it more of the lack of support in TMPGEnc Plus for non standard Mpeg 2, comes to something when the freeware works but the paid version does not.

Still, just use the one that does work, its always a good idea to keep older versions

    Use a frameserver like DVD2AVI.
Open mpeg files direct to TMPGenc ain't the best for your encodings for various reasons.
