  1. I'm a newbie at this, I apologize.

I'm trying to convert a video from DVD (which has been burned on my DVD recorder) to .mpg (or something similar), removing commercials in the process. I was going to use MPEG Streamclip, but I can't get it to open the DVD or VIDEO_TS file properly. It appears to be open (shows file name at top and slider bar, which moves when I hit play) but I get no image or sound. The program seem to have no issue with other movie files (.mov, .m4v, etc). The DVD itself plays fine on my computer. I've also tried copying the VIDEO_TS file to my computer, in case the program wasn't agreeing with my DVD drive for whatever reason, but I run into the same issues.

Am I missing something? Is there another program for macs that will do the trick for me?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Perhaps Handbrake? It won't do the editing but it should permit you to rip it to your hard drive in MP4/H264.

  3. MPEG Streamclip needs the Quicktime MPEG-2 Component (which is not free) in order to read/edit .vob DVD video files.

Avidemux is able to edit MPEG-2 files without additional components.
