  1. I've captured some video with the Hollywood DV bridge using Premiere. The files are saved as Microsoft DV avi I believe. I want to burn the video to dvd.

When I try to use TMGEnc, I get an error saying "unsupported file type". If I re-encode the video in Premiere and save it as Microsoft avi, not DV avi, I can then open the file in TMGEnc.

There has got to be a better way than capturing then encoding the video twice to get it ready for DVD.

    Any help would be great!

  2. I did search the forums and found a thread about demuxing the audio first with virtual dub.

I can not open the finle in virtual dub either. That gives a little more specific error "Can't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd'"

am I missing a codec or something?

It sounds very much like you don't have a DV codec installed.
A good one to try is the Mainconcept codec available here :-
    www.mainconcept.com
This should allow TMPGEnc and any other encoder or editing program to read DV AVI's.

  4. Thanks for putting me on the right track. I just installed the panasonic codec and all is well now.

It just seems a bit weird to me that Premiere could save and work with avi DV files without installing a codec.

    thanks again!
