I don't see the codec listed for Audio (Unknown) sounds like its missing, try installing the Nimo codec pack, it also comes with AC3.

Also when you save the audio are you converting it ? or just saving it out as it is ?

    Audio > full processing mode
    Audio > Conversion > 44.1Khz
    SAVE WAV

This converts the AC3 to an uncompressed wave file at 44.1Khz to match the VCD spec. Some people have problems achieving this in Vdub, It may be down to the AC3 codec currently installed, I have Nimo and it give no conversion problems.

He cannot convert it because Virtualdub does not recognise it. You save it as a "wav" using direct stream copy, rename it .ac3 and then convert with something like HeadAC3he. Or, look for the guide elsewhere on this site.

If the Nimo codec pack is installed there is no reason for Vdub not to accept it. Nimo provides an AC3 codec, which I use all the time to save the WAV converted from AC3 to uncompressed, ready for use as a correct VCD audio format.

So, you can play ac3 audio with Virtualdub after intalling the Nimo codec pack? Fair enough. If Virtualdub can play the audio I'm sure Virtualdub can convert it. I can play ac3 audio, but not with Virtualdub.

Sometimes you can get sync problems, but you may be OK. Just try it. If you do get any problems with sync, you know what to try next. 8)

    If you load the AVI into Vdub you can do this;

    Audio > full processing mode
    Audio > Conversion >44.1Khz
    SAVE WAV

You have now saved out the audio uncompressed at 44.1Khz (Ready for VCD) and can load it into www.goldwave.com (Also get MP3 plug-ins there)

You can maximize the audio, and make sure left and right tracks are the same. You can also apply a hiss removal filter. Finally save the WAV and use it with the original AVI in TMPGENC.

Gold wave can also load the AVI (Audio) direct

  14. you can't load an ac3 (avi) file in virtualDub and select "full Processing mode"
    and save wav.
you have to select "Direct Stream Copy" and then save wav as "whatever.ac3" then virtualDub will name it "whatever.ac3.wav" when its done ripping it, then you rename it "whatever.ac3" and load it into headac3he which will convert it and save it as "whatever.wav"

Maybe "You cant" but others can, Nimo should provide the correct AC3 codec for this, if your using some other, then it wont work.

Since this machine has been running for a long time now without a fresh install, I cannot comment on why some people cannot convert the AC3 in Vdub.

However tonight I downloaded the "headac3he-0.23a" which can convert AC3 to WAV

You also need to download the .dll's to go with it, funny thing is I cannot use to to convert from WAV to AC3 but can in Vdub

    Give headac3he-0.23a a try
