  1. if i rip the movie to vcd, can i record it to a dvd-r, and play it as a vcd? or using tmpgnec encode it as a dvd reso. and play it? or will this not work? thanks

    for the 2nd part, its basically the same answer as the 1st part, except that you encode it to mpeg2 DVD spec before authoring.

    Any video on a DVD-r disc must be correctly authored as DVD or it will not play in your standalone (unless you are VERY lucky and have one of the few players that will cope!)
