  1. (I put this under 'Off Topic', but it is non-directly related to SVCD )

I am looking to upgrade my motherboard + cpu and am searching for advice. I'm going cheap (yea, I'm married haha!). Going by PriceWatch, I can get a Anthlon XP 1800+ / motherboard combo for $132 shipped. For this pricerange, I've seen 2 motherboards listed, the K7S5A (ECS) and the 830LR (PC Chips). As far as I can tell, they have virtually the same specs, including using the Sis-735 chipset (which I am not familiar with).

Can anyone give me some advice on selecting the best motherboard here? Any good/bad things to say about either one? Or can you point me to some reviews? I'm really wanting to stay below $150. Oh yes, this pc is primarily used for DVD ripping and SVCD convertion, if that helps.

  2. I would go for the K7S5A - thats what I have - I have a Athlon 1600+ running on it with 128MB of DDR Memeory (Please get at least 256MB DDR.) There are to DDr slots so thats a plus and I haven't found a major problem with it yet besides that the Power Light on the case has to many prongs....(o well)

I like it it's cheap. It runs good.... You have to get the new drivers for XP on the SiS site or else sound doesn't work.... Good Luck
