  1. I download certain avi files that usually are divx 4.3 files that when I try to open them I get the error message "not enough memory to complete this operation". I have the latest divx codecs and the nimo codec installed but I keep getting this message even after rebooting without opening any other program or file (to conserve memory) I have 128 megs of ram. Is there any program I can use to check the viability of this file? I don't think I want to use Vdub because that takes hours to check it? or am I wrong?
    HELP!!! Thank you......

If the AVI is not a fake, load it into Vdub and select file > file information
If there are any missing parts, (No audio) or (No video) it’s a fake.

You can also load into TMPGEnc and use preview

  3. All these files turn out to be just black. Since I had not had any experience with them before I didn't know if maybe I was missing some codec or something and it just wasn't playing because of that but now I realize thanks to you these are just junk files and ned to delete them. thanks for the tip.....

Unfortunately a lot of time can be wasted downloading fakes, to prevent this...
When you have downloaded about 1Mb "Copy" the .dat file to a temporary location and rename to .AVI or .mpg and load into TMPGEnc, you can use the preview to see the first minuet or so of the movie, if this happens to show just black, or upon load it shows no audio... Cancel the download, report the fake file to the forums that list these things.

Its safer to use a verified share reactor movie with sig2dat
