  1. Can anyone tell me which is the best CPU a P4 or AMD for encoding MPGs using TMPGENC? Assuming like for like i.e 1.7 XP V 1.7 GIG P4

Does SSE2 get used with TMPGENC?

Can TMPGENC use dual CPUS - much performance increase?

Thanks in advance for any info given

  2. TMPGEnc utilizes SSE2 instructions.

It will also utilize dual processors. Performance increase is almost 100% (over a single processor of same type and clock speed)
    cheers!

  3. I upgraded my mobo/cpu combo...everything else in the machine remained...

    For $375...I got...

    P4 1.6a Northwood CPU
MSI Ultra 645dx (rated best single P4 board right now)
    512mb PC2700 DDR 333mhz memory...

This system is running at 2.3ghz with a mem clock ratio of 4:5 and 346 mhz....FSB is running at 144 quad pumped to 576mhz...

This thing chews through TMPGEnc like no other.... was the best upgrade I've made in a long time....

I'd go with a P4 system...I used to be a big AMD fan...but the last thing I need right now is another room heater and the P4's are faster now !!!

  4. With the P4 being so cheap, I would also go with a P4. Intel Pentiums always seems to be better at number crunching, most likely because of the special instruction sets.
