WHICH MEDIA FOR MATSHITA LF-D310 DVD BURNER?

hey guys!

OK i got this Panasonic LF-D311(aka LF-D310)

I read here that lot of ppl are unhappy with it, whatever as an oem drive or as vivastar branded


well i'm no exception

i bought 50 unbranded princo blanks(http://store3.yimg.com/I/meritline_1686_3774461), and i cannot even burn them...

I get a scsi error message in PrimoDVD/RecordNow Max just after the "initializing" job
Nero 5.5.8.0 won't even recognize the blank, but the 5.5.7.8 will
I still get a "power calibration error" 50% of the time

but the Mitsui media works great, same for some other OEM Princo(http://store3.yimg.com/I/meritline_1683_1082121 )

I still can't tell if the fact that i get an error message at the lead in process is because there's a Windows 2000 problem, shitty blanks, this burner being unreliable, or voodoo spell ?

some blanks that give "power calibration error" at lead in will succeed to burn at the second try, sometimes that's a no go, one more coaster, YIPPIE!

some ppl are very happy with this drive, like cdrinfo and so on, so WTF ????

I tried with Win98SE, same story applies.

Anyway, I have to make a choice now, should i buy that BulkPaq cheap Princo OEM media, or should i buy some OEM VIVASTAR(they sell a Panasonic burner with their name on, so we could guess the blanks work great on the pana burner, huh?~!)

the VivaStar is 50% more expensive, and noone can say how to recoginize if an oem Princo media is first or second gen...

my vivastar is being shipped back I am the lucky one to have the first rma return in america under the vivastar brand I just missed my 30 day purchase site return, I am having the same problem but doesn't want vivastar media either. I was one of the lucky ones to pay $150 more for it than you can buy it now for too. the few discs that I burned will play intermittently on desktop pcs with good media , Same authoring and mpeg file burned on a sony +rw plays flawless on my desktops. I do believe its a piece of crap just look how the cd drawer looks

Here is what I have tried on mine
Prime Disc doesn't recgognize the disc, Generic spindle 100 pk dark purple dye from shop4tech first one on top recorded doesn't play on apex players tried the next 20 and media wasn't even recognized also froze up xp, Vivastar media that comes with it recorded a few doesn't play on apex players coastered a few errored on burning, as stated above same authoring and burning through my dvd 3.0 or movie factory produced the no plays vivastars recording software produced the burning errors. A Vivastar tech told me today that they have upgraded their burning software and can be downloaded from their website, though I checked and it isn't posted yet on their website,

man, don't make me laugh, the first I received didn't work, had to send it for RMA :P

they gave me a new unit, that works as explained

I'm afraid this burner is shit too

I'm about to order 150 pieces of the BulkPaq DVD-R's, I hope they will work fine ;p
or I will sell this drive on ebay and buy an A04 ;o

My drive works great, both for DVD-RAM and DVD-R.

But then again, I don't buy bulk media because with most of the cheapo stuff is just that - cheap crap. The Pioneer owners also have problem with the cheap media. Unreliable burns.

The Panasonic LF-D311 is the best purchase I've made in a long time.

Vivastar unbranded 50 pk for $80 and Hyper Mycrosystems cheap media both burn well using movie factory and play on my apex set tops

i'm so down...
i got these vivstar unbranded media, they burn fine, but i can't read what i burned....
the event viewer gives "bad sector on cdrom0" every second
