  1. What's the best card to capture VCR/TiVo recordings with? I'd like MPEG2 format, and I assume you can't use the coaxial output without having a tuner to decode the signal, correct?
So, I either need a capture card with a tuner that can get the signal through coax and capture in MPEG2 or I need to run a composite cable about 50 feet. Is it possible to run the signal that far?
I tried the Creative Digital VCR, works great, but only by itself. I couldn't find any info on how to use it outside it's own software or to use it's files so that card is going back to Fry's...
    Any help greatly appreciated.

  2. I would suggest an ATI Radeon All In Wonder. I'm using one now, and love it. Ive just started capping in MPEG2 myself. (i just learned a trick to get them to play on my dvd player.) And its got composite in, along with red/yellow/white rca in and svideo in. Svideo & RCA are on a purple breakout box and they also work as output. And its got a built in tv decoder, although if youre just doing vcr/tivo, you dont really need it. I cap stuff from my tivo all the time with the radeon, and they come out great.

  3. Excellent! Thanks for the reply!
How are you sending the TiVo signal? Thru coax, composite or the RCA lines? My problem is the TiVo is in the living room, PC in the office, it's about a 50 foot run and neither unit is available to move closer to the other. Also what software are you using to capture the TiVo? I can't find any firm info on the length one can run RCA lines without losing signal integrity.

    Thanks again!!!
