  1. Apols if this has been answered some where else but when I convert from DivX to SVCD with TMPeng where there are scenes with a large amount of one colour it appears 'blocky and pixely'. Ni matter if I use VBR or CBR it does this- can anyone please advise how to fix this.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Probably your best bet is to check the 'soften block noise' option on the Gop Tab (I Think thats where it is).

  3. Probably a low fps file
We were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked?

  4. low fps file ??? what do you mean. The file template I use in Tmpgenc is the same as the Divx. This is a highly annoying problem which occurs regardless if |I use VBR or CBR. The instructions I am following are as in the officialhelp guide - someone MUST also be having this problem!!

  5. As I said, check the 'soften block noise' option. On scenes with large areas of one colour this seems to be a failing of TmpGenc, though other encoders I have tried are no better at this so 'soften block noise' is the only option I can think of that will help this.

BTW, fps has nothing to do with it.

  6. i find i always get some element of blockiness when converting from divx, checking the block soften should sort out most of it.

what you didn't give is a few very important pieces of information:
    1) what is the source of the divx?(dvdrip, taped screen...) --remember, GIGO (garbage in=garbage out)
    2) what bitrate(s) are you encoding at? --they might be too low, or in VBR, up your minimum bitrate
