  1. Hello all, I use Roxio's VCD creator to burn my VCDs. I have an mpeg file that's just a hair over 700mb in size, and I'm having trouble burning it. I had it originally in bin/cue format, but extracted it to mpeg using VCDgear. I couldn't get Roxio to burn it at first because it said it was too big. I then created a disc image of it on my hard drive, and then burned it sucessfully. However, it will only play on my computer's DVD player, not my standalone (Sony DVP-NC600).

Should I try another program (fireburner and cdrwin have been mentioned) to burn the original bin/cue files? I haven't tried this method because I don't want to keep wasting discs and I don't know anything about overburning, if that's even involved here. I just want to be able to play this on my standalone player! I know I must be doing something wrong, because I haven't heard complaints from other netgoers who've tried to do this.

My CD writer drive is a Sony CRX100E.

  2. It may be that although it is an mpeg file, it is not a vcd compliant mpeg. If this is the case just burning the mpeg to a cd will not mean that it is a vcd and your stand alone player will not play it. Even if it is a VCD compliant mpeg, making a disc image of it and burning it as a data file (mode 1) to a cdr will still not work. You need to burn it as a VCD (mode 2).

Try using your software to burn it as a VCD, if it is'nt VCD compliant it should say so, I know nero does.

If this is the case you need to reencode it as a VCD compliant mpeg, use TMPGEnc to do this. Then burn it as a VCD.

PS a mode 2 mpeg VCD is approximately 10MB/min so on an 80 min (700MB) disc you can fit an 800MB mpeg.

I had the same problem and then used VCDEasy and was able to overburn.

  4. Like I said if its just over 700MB vcd compliant mpeg, there is no need to overburn as long as he burns it as a VCD (mode2). 700MB will be 70 minutes which will easily fit on an 80min CDR

No wonder I've been able to burn up to 800mb....do you know if this holds true for SVCD's?

  6. I am quite certain it is VCD compliant, as it is a two disc set and I burnt and could watch disc 2 with no problems. That one was under 700 mb.

I am hoping VCD easy will work, because I downloaded trial version of cdrwin and fireburner, but I couldn't even get the programs to work right. When I went to download the full VCDEasy from this site, it said I couldn't do it because today's download limit had been reached. I first tried yesterday at 7 pm, and today at 8 am it still said the same thing.

  10. I am going to try VCDEasy and the Nero Demo tonight. if they do not work, I will just have to split the file.

I am thinking more and more that this is a problem with my standalone DVD player and not my burning drive or software.

I mean, as I stated above, Roxio did finally burn the CD. I would just like to confirm with another software (which I haven't been able to do yet) that I can burn this large file normally. Then if it doesn't play on my DVD player, I will have to move on. Also, this isn't a matter of my VCDs not working, I burn files less than 700 MB all the time successfully.

  11. You will need firmware 1.0n on crx-100e at least to do squat.

If you do not have it i can provide it or url link.

If you have a newer firmware (1.0o or later) let me know.

  12. I know nothing about firmware or how to upgrade it, but my properties tab on the drive says I have 1.0m. If you could direct me how to upgrade, I would appreciate it. What exactly will this do for me? I haven't really had any problems with my burner thus far.

  14. I have a Sony DVP CX860. It is very picky about VCD's. I created many coasters when I first started until I read somewhere in this forum that using CDRW instead of CDr media would work better. Since then I have created VCD's with EZ CD Creator, Nero, and VCD Easy, and Uleads Digital Picture Show and a couple of other freeware packages. They all worked beautifully both on PC and TV (DVD player.) The only problem I have now is that I cant control volume on TV or DVD player but I have that problem with DVD movies I have purchased.

    CDRW's work goooooood.

  15. Hello all,

Sorry I couldn't post this sooner, but the forum was down as you know. Anyway, after unsuccessfully trying the demos of fireburner and cdrwin, I finall got to burn a copy using VCDEasy. And guess what? It worked!! I got it to play both on my computer's DVD player and on my Sony standalone. I'll be using that from now on for all my questionably sized VCDs.

I would like to say that I very much appreciate the prompt responses I received here. It is this site, more than any other forum I visited, that helped me to do this sucessfully.
