Do you lose quality when you break up a DivX into 2 parts using Virtual Dub? It's a direct stream copy right? So does that mean it's copying the exact frames, and no quality is lost?

You are right no quality lost when you split with v-dub. You will lose some when you encode it to mpeg.
-
yes you will lose quality when converting to mpeg but only if the divx is a dvd rip
We were all NEWBIES once and the only stupid question is the one that's not asked? -
Re-encoding always causes some lost in quaility. DVD rip or no DVD rip. However, if you want to spilt a DivX to encode two (or more) x(S)VCDs you should use the source range command in TMPGenc instead.
It's easier and allows to set up batch encoding. -
Sorry, Vegita-sama, but could you explain better? I usually have bad quality MPEGs when the source is a DIVx file, I wonder if I can use any filter to improve it, or another encoder? What u thing?

I have a question related to this: Is it at all possible to improve the picture quality after or during the encoding process?
-
You can use filters such as smooth, and noise reduction to make minor improvements. The best way to find out the combination that works for you is to do some tests on a short clip.
