I wanted to share an exciting approach to live streaming that uses Icecast 2.x to broadcast 1080p VP9/WebM video streams live—no proprietary media servers or plugins needed!

Why this matters:

Icecast traditionally streams audio, but here we push it to stream HD video using VP9/WebM, fully supported in modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, iOS Safari).

Uses simple HTML5 <video> tag, no JavaScript player required.

Open standard, no royalties, and lightweight server setup.
