first, let me say that I'm as novice as it comes to video but have dabbled in it and have successfully made a couple videos 10 years ago for a small website side business. I have spent the last 7 years building a house and now I feel like I have hit a time warp and everything I own is out of date. I have a canon XHA1s camera and I previously used this camera with a desktop mac pro using finial cut and it has crashed. I now have a new McBook pro with M3 Max chip with Final cut installed and many thunderbolt 4 ports but there is no port on it for the camera cable supplied (as everyone probably knows).

The canon XHA1s has an output connection firewire 6 pin. The cable canon recommended at the time was a FW 6-pin to FW 4-pin. The FW 4 pin connected to the computer. I have researched here and on YouTube as I said and find most of the answers and the adapter clips are out-dated by 4 years or more (which doesn't mean they are wrong). I really don't want to purchase a new camera and would like to get this one up and running again if possible. I also don't want to buy a bunch of adapters only to find out that they will not work on these newer computers (2024).

My questions to those that may know,

1. is my new mac with the M3 Max chip going to work like the intel chips did in the past with this older camera?
2. should I purchase a male firewire 6pin (camera) to male firewire 800 to shorten the number of dongles?
3. If anyone has updated experience as to which adapters I should purchase I'd love to know and save me the hassle of trial and error.
