Which one of these lossless image formats is the smallest? If I convert a lossless format into another lossless format, it will still be lossless? What tools can convert videos into image sequences of these lossless formats?

If you convert from one lossless format to another - AND keep the same resolution, color space, color subsampling, bitdepth, framerate, etc - then it will continue be lossless. Change any of these, and it will NOT.

Why do you need this info?

Just making sure. Also, my other two questions?

  4. I would worry much more about compatibility and portability. Stick with PNG unless you're using some 30 year old software that only support TGA or some such.

  5. Depends on the pixel format - some image formats with high compression do not support certain pixel formats

If it was 8bit RGB, webp lossless RGBA typically gets about 10-30% better compression than typical 8bit PNG settings .

webp has decent compatibility (open source tools, web browser support) but still far less than PNG . For example, many professional programs will not import a webp sequence

If the main goal is lossless compression, consider a lossless video format with temporal compression - they will always be smaller than an image sequence in the same pixel format

How do I turn a video into a lossless webp image sequence, then?
