  4. i have same problem it could be the framerate from an NTSC film convert to PAl might make it slower.

  5. Check the framerates of your source avi's and select the TmpGenc template with a matching framerate. If this means your DVD player/TV can no longer handle them you will have to investigate how to do PAL/NTSC conversion properly. Its a pain in the a** but can be done, there is a guide on this under the CONVERT HowTos on your left.

BTW, what do they look like played on the PC??

  6. The mpg is jerky on my pc as well but you can only just make it out. The low tv resolution must amplify the crap encoding.

As for ntsc. im encoding in it and burning it in nero using it and my pioneer 545 plays anything so i cant see there being a problem there.

Must be a setting in tmpgenc. Cant put my finger on it. Does the same for vcd's as well.

  7. But what is the framerate of the source files, are they downloaded Divx movies, DVD rips or captured by yourself?

Check the framerate by loading the AVI's into virtualdub and selecting file->file properties. If the reported framerate is 25fps then they are PAL format (at least in that respect) Using TmpGenc to encode as NTSC Mpegs will cause slight jerks as it removes (NTSC film) or adds (NTSC) frames to make up the difference.

If you TV/DVD player can handle it (and you suggest it can), then select the apropriate PAL template and re-encode.

BTW, if your source files FPS do not match any of the standards (23.97, 25 or 29.97) then you could be in for a rough ride getting smooth playing conversions!

  8. Thanks for the reply bugster.
Right the files are 23.97 and ive been using the ntsc film template and i've created my own. No luck with that i think ive tried every one.
    Done 4:3 16:9 and 1:1, still jerking.

Tried the panasonic mpeg1 converter too, still dodgy video playback.

Almost ready to delete all my 40Gb of divx files and just buy the bloody dvd films on origional format. Used so much time and processing power to get it working and there is always glitches.

  9. Try this, use the NTSC film template in TmpGenc, encode video only. Go to the advanced options tab on the settings dialog and ensure 3:2 pulldown is NOT checked. Encode your video, you should end up with a .m2v file. Now apply 3:2 pulldown using pulldown.exe (tools<--). You will now have a second .m2v file with pulldown enabled. Remux with your audio and burn. Actually, you can check the playback quality without the remux & burn step if you wish.

Let me know if this works for you.
