  1. Film needs to be detelecined but credits are interlaced. What's the best way to handle this? If I detelecine the the whole films including credits the credits jump/stutter because of the conversion to 23.976 fps. If I deinterlace at 29.97fps the credit are smooth. I'm stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure there will be more elegant solutions but you could just chop the credits off and treat them separately, then rejoin them. Virtual Dub can join files together.

  3. Try clever FFmpeg-GUI.
Load your video, click main, click encode video stream, click keep size, set your encoder, click various, check IVTC, click close various, click encode.

In the Inverse Telecine process all interlaced frames are deinterlaced automatically.

  4. If it's simple scrolling credits over a static background IVTC the body of the video to 23.976 fps, then deinterlace the credits to 29.97 (or 59.94) fps and use a frame rate converter to convert the credits to 23.976 fps.

Or, deinterlace the entire video to 59.94 fps. Watched on a 60 Hz display you'll get the usual 3:2 repeat judder of film sources, and the credits will be smooth.

  5. In the situation "telecined film source OVERLAYED by some real 29.97fps content" there is NO solution to get everything progressive and without judder. No way.
Or does anyone meanwhile know a technique (maybe with some A.I.?) to de-overlay and separate such two layers?
