  1. My DVD player doesn't play SVCDs. Since it seems the movement from VCD to SVCD is underway, is it possible for me to download SVCD Mpegs and convert them to VCD mpegs with TMPGenc or something?

    In the past I have used DVD 2 AVI to frameserve them to TMPG as you would a DVD rip.

    Also, if you have an Mpeg 2 codec installed (see TOOLS area) there should be no reason you couldn't straight encode it in TMPG, but Framserving via a Project file worked well.

    try a search for "SVCD with VCD header" --this is a workaround that might allow you to watch SVCD's on your non SVCD capable player
