  1. Forgive my ignorance..............Thanks to this forum I have discovered that my Sony 530 dvd plays cd-r. So I converted some VHS tapes to mpeg2 using a ATI All In Wonder 128 pro video card..........Problem is the file is a bit to large for a cd-r..........Please tell me how to effectively fit the file onto 1 disc so I do not have to cut the file and spread it on to 2 discs..........Thankyou

700MB CD-R's hold 702MB of data in Mode 1 and 807MB of data in Mode 2 (atleast that's how much my TDK 80min's hold).

VCD's and SVCD's are written to CD in Mode 2.

If your authoring program (an S/VCD-aware program) states it will not fit, you have to either cut the file or re-encode it with a lower bitrate. If your not trying to author an SVCD and simply want to backup the raw file, burn it in Mode 2. You won't get the same disc integrity Mode 1 offers, but it will fit.

  4. Sorry to be rude vampire but how would U manage to fit an 800 mb svcd compliant mpeg 2 an 80 min cdr???? unless it was converted to mpeg1 vcd or xvcd using one of sefy's templates? If U know the answer please tell me as the biterate calculator I'm using to convert is rather crap!! anyway top answer the above question the other idea is to convert ithe svcd back to mpeg1 as it will fit on a cd as a vcd, by the way your sony have bother playing svcd's by the way!!

P@iNKilleR, 800MB are 800 MB, no matter which bitrate you use or whether these 800 MB are 60minutes or only 30 minutes of video.

  7. You could always try 900 mb 99min cdr media, you need to check your burner for compatability though.

you might be able to get your file onto the CDR...make sure to enable overburning. if you still can't get it onto the CD, you could always demux your mpeg, reencode the audio at a lower bitrate, remux, and then burn. if your audio is 224, going to 192 should get your file small enough to fit without any noticible loss in quality
