  1. VCR was working well.
I was using it to convert old VHS-C tapes to mp4.
    Then it stopped working.
When I press Play, the tape advances normally inside the VCR, but the counter / timer doesn't advance and the video is a black screen.
If I fastforward, I get video for a couple seconds but then the screen goes dark again.

Have tried other VHS tapes and the same problem now exists for all tapes.
Have tried FF/RW a few times which hasn't helped.
Have tried cleaning the heads with 99% isopropyl alcohol which hasn't helped.

    Thoughts?

  2. I'm not expert, but you only don't see video? Do you hear any audio? You use grabber or something like that?
What if You just connect VCR to TV?
Maybe device You are using to capture is broken?
If no, it could be also damaged cable (try another cable)
    Or damaged output in VCR.
For example I have VCR with broken timer screen but it's playing good.

    Thanks for the reply.

To clarify: the audio and video both don't work. And it doesn't work when connected straight to a TV.
