So here's a question for the experts out there:

I'm encoding some SVCDs at near the max bitrate (2400) but I'm still seeing significant artifacting during high motion scenes.

Is there any way to reduce this? Would 2 pass variable bit rate make any difference at all if I'm using the max bitrate for the whole disc?

    Thanks!

  2. If your using TMPGenc then you can click on settings, go to the quantize matrix tab, and enable the 'soften block noise' option. This should make the artifacts less visable.

  3. You dont say what encoding you are using. If using CBR, try CQ which is a single pass VBR style. If this isnt good enough 2pass VBR should help even more. And yes, as mikewalker84, 'soften block noise' will make the aretfacts less visible but costs in terms of overall picture quality. Try the different options on a short test clip (with lots of motion) and see which you prefer.
