What is this "Apple Box" ? HD ?

A dvd-recorder can only record SD signals and mpeg2 at that.

You already stated that so you add nothing to the discussion.

One needs to know what signal is initially received by this 'Apple Box'. Audio is different to video. So if the video signal is, for example, h264(AVC) there is no way - not even allowing for any possible High Definition Copy Protection (HDCP), as stated above, - a simple adapter which merely converts a HD signal to a composite one will not work. Yes, the audio could pass through but the recorder must receive SD mpeg2 VIDEO which one only receives these days from analog sources.

And if you can not answer the question just tell the model no etc of the 'Apple Box'

Still not terriby helpful so one must assume that the incoming signal really is HD.

So it's not directly possible for reasons alread stated. And even if you can defeat HDCP (some hdmi splitters can do this) you will still have non-SD video to contend with.

I suggest that if you really want to record from the box then you need to invest in a HD recorder + a compatable splitter (you can search the forums about this but be warned that what might have worked in the past may not do so now)
