  1. Hi folks, newbie here...I'm in a fix. Somone offered me the A03 to me for $200.00, and it's used. But I also have an offer for a brand new 104 for about $330.00.

I want the best deal, but if the performance increase is worth the extra $130.00, then I'd go for the 104.

But I need some advice from the experienced folks on this board...which one should I go with?

    Thanks for your help...

  2. I would buy the 103 and make sure you have the latest F/W upgrade 1.80 loaded on it. This specs on both drives are similar. The biggest difference is the 104 support HS CDRW media writing and it supports vertical orientation.

Well, before you make that jump, make sure that the A03 will fit in your computer (it's longer than the 104). Also, if you don't have a fast computer, then the 104 offers BUFFER UNDERRUN PROTECTION (which can prevent a stack of coasters). It also can use DMA instead of only PIO data modes.

No doubt about it, the 104 is a superior unit, but the burned DVD's are the same. You need to weigh the cost advantage versus the unit features to see if it fits into your "comfort" zone.

A04 (104) is cheaper $336! Where can you find A03 (103) for that price?
