Quick question:
The instruction I have for making DVD-R movies says to burn in NERO using ISO/UDF format, but the DVD diskI bring up the properties on just says UDF......
Should I perhaps try making them in straight UDF format? What do you guys do?

I have seen reports stating that Nero does not exectly follow the UDF/ISO spec. This would explain why I have had several video DVDs that I have authored (on pricey Pioneer media) that failed to work on my set top box. To test this claim I have created DVD movies using the same image used for Nero on PrimoDVD. My results have been very succesful as I have yet to burn a coaster.

Well coasters are not really the problem, the problem I'm having is things such as a movie burned on apple media that would play on most players but not a PS2 (which apple media is suppose to be very good for) and cd-recordable.com media which plays fine on my PC but not ANY settop player...
This weekend I'm gonna just select the UDF format instead of the USF/ISO format and see if anything changes.... if not then I'll try other burn programs, tho' nero does fine so far with most media and my set top players. -
I really must learn to be more specific. The DVDs that I refered to as coasters would actualy play fine on my PC and laptop but not my set top box. Since they don't play where I intended I call them coasters.
Since Nero works for you then I must be doing something wrong on my end. But all this is moot now since I started using PrimoDVD. Now if the DVD does not play I can blame the media. -
Thanks for the good info, its all really helping. I dont get to use my PC much because of my shift except on the weekends, but this weekend I have a plan:
1. Check firmware and make sure I'm 1.20
2. Try NERO with just UDF format instead of UDF/ISO
3. Try different burning software
If I can get those cheap disk to work somehow then I have a ton of them left from all my testing.
